Sports massage is built around what your body is doing this week, whether that is training for a race, recovering from one, or carrying the niggles that build with regular training. Julia uses targeted, often firmer techniques to prepare tissue before exertion and to clear it afterwards, working on the specific muscles your sport loads hardest. Pre-event work is quicker and more stimulating, waking tissue up and improving blood flow. Post-event and recovery work is slower, addressing the tightness and micro-damage that follow effort. It is not only for competitive athletes. Anyone who trains hard, runs, lifts, cycles or plays regularly can benefit, and many of the people on Julia's table are desk workers who also train three or four times a week. If you are managing an acute injury, severe pain or recent surgery, speak to your GP or physiotherapist first and we will work alongside that care.

What it helps with

The problems this treatment is built for.

Pre-event preparation

Stimulating work that warms tissue, increases blood flow and primes the muscles you are about to load.

Post-event recovery

Slower, deeper work that clears the tightness and heaviness that settle in after hard effort.

Training niggles

The small complaints that do not stop you training but slow you down. Addressed before they become an injury.

Range and mobility

Release around joints that need to move freely for your sport, so technique is not limited by tight tissue.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Should I come before or after an event?

Both, for different reasons. A pre-event session a day or two before stimulates and prepares the tissue. A post-event session in the days after clears tightness and supports recovery. Tell Julia what you are training for and when, and she will time the work correctly.

How soon before a race should I book?

Two to four days before is ideal for a pre-event session. Closer than that and the tissue may still be settling on race day. For recovery, book within a few days after the event while the tightness is fresh.

Will it help delayed onset muscle soreness?

It can help reduce the soreness that peaks a day or two after unaccustomed effort, by improving blood flow and clearing tightness. It will not erase it entirely, but recovery work in the days after a hard session tends to shorten the window of heaviness.

Do I need to be an athlete?

No. Most clients are not competitive athletes. If you train regularly, run, lift, cycle or play a sport and your body carries the load of it, sports massage is relevant to you. Julia works to your level, not to a competitive standard.
