Swedish massage is the treatment for when the goal is to slow down. It uses long, flowing, lighter-pressure strokes across the whole body to ease the nervous system into a state of calm, improve circulation and let general tension melt. It is not aimed at a specific knot or a sports goal. It is aimed at the accumulated stress, the poor sleep, the shoulders that have crept up toward the ears, and the general tightness that comes from weeks of pressure. Because the pressure is lighter and the pace is unhurried, it is the treatment most first-timers find comfortable, and the one people choose when they want to leave the studio noticeably lighter than they arrived. If you are managing a diagnosed condition or an injury, speak to your GP or physiotherapist as well as booking with us.

What it helps with

The problems this treatment is built for.

Deep relaxation

Long, rhythmic strokes that calm the nervous system and lower the physical state of alert that stress maintains.

Better sleep

Many clients sleep deeply the night after a Swedish session, as the body finally lets go of held tension.

Improved circulation

The flowing strokes encourage blood and lymph movement, which helps the body clear metabolic waste from tissue.

A gentle first session

Lighter pressure and a predictable rhythm make this the most comfortable introduction to massage for first-timers.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How does Swedish differ from deep tissue?

Swedish uses lighter pressure and long, flowing strokes across the whole body to relax and de-stress. Deep tissue uses slow, firm, focused pressure to reach the deeper layers and release specific knots. Choose Swedish to unwind; choose deep tissue to fix a stubborn problem.

Is it good for first-timers?

It is the most comfortable first massage for most people. The pressure is lighter, the pace is predictable, and the goal is relaxation rather than working through discomfort. If you have never had a massage and feel nervous, Swedish is the right place to start.

Will it help sleep and stress?

It often does. By calming the nervous system and releasing held tension, many clients sleep deeply the night after a session and feel the drop in stress for several days. It is not a medical treatment for insomnia or anxiety, but it is a genuine reset for stress-loaded bodies.

What oils are used?

A neutral, unscented base oil is used by default, suitable for most skin types. If you would like a scented oil, mention it when booking and Julia will advise. Oils are applied for glide and skin condition, not for aromatherapy effects, which is a separate treatment.

“Julia has exceptional knowledge of holistic treatments and created a genuinely peaceful space.”
